Tacit Software Releases illumio Upgrade - Allows Employees to Easily Share Knowledge and Monitor News, Blogs, and Wikis
Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) September 19, 2007 -- Tacit Software today announced the availability of illumio 2.1, an attention management productivity tool that enables employees to leverage the collective knowledge of their organization and stay up-to-date on the information they need to work effectively. This new version of illumio includes a revamped user interface, enhanced administrative functions and improved search and navigation features that make it easier for employees to quickly discover and share the information and knowledge that's critical to their jobs.
Finding Important Information in a Sea of News, Blog, and Wiki Sites
With the increasing use of blogs, wikis, and other user-generated content both inside and outside of companies, the typical knowledge worker is drowning in information. illumio helps these workers quickly identify the information that's important to them and to share this knowledge with colleagues. Using illumio, employees can subscribe to web content via RSS feeds from both internal and external sources likes blogs and wikis. illumio then analyzes all the incoming content and prioritizes it based on the person's interests.
A Knowledge Sharing Social Network for Organizations
illumio also includes a Q&A exchange where employees ask questions and illumio finds the best person to respond based on the person's interests and expertise. This expertise discovery feature creates a communication channel within organizations that doesn't suffer from the usual formal and informal barriers that prevent effective knowledge sharing and collaboration. Employees can pose a question, request a file, or ask for a contact through the illumio Q&A exchange and illumio automatically finds the best people to respond to the request.
Automatically Tuned to Each User's Interests
The key to illumio's power is its ability, as a tool that sits on the user's desktop, to automatically figure out each user's interests and expertise by privately indexing a user's personal files, emails, contacts, web favorites and web history - similar to a desktop search engine. illumio then uses this evolving profile to filter the incoming RSS feeds and questions and only show the user the content that matches his or her interests.
New Features in illumio 2.1 include:
- Streamlined Q&A Exchange for Knowledge Sharing
The latest version of illumio includes a streamlined user interface so employees can quickly ask a question and get valuable answers from others in their organization. With new cross-group functionality, questions get answered faster and more accurately while the illumio architecture prevents anyone's personal information from ever leaving their computer.
- Find Important News Feeds and Blog Feeds
illumio now has a built-in RSS feed search for users to easily find news and blog feeds without needing to know anything about RSS feeds or OPML. Users can get the industry, competitor, and customer news that's relevant to them by subscribing to feeds based on URL or keyword.
- Knowledge Base Integration
illumio 2.1 includes more robust reporting and administrative functionality, including the ability to export the illumio knowledge base to other applications. Administrators can securely import illumio Q&A and discussions into any application that supports XML, allowing companies the ability to easily collect, organize and search on the knowledge base created by illumio user activity.
- Share Relevant Content across the Organization
illumio 2.1 makes it easy to share important news, blog, and wiki content with colleagues. By automatically integrating with Microsoft Outlook, illumio recommends people to share an article with based on past email interactions with them. In addition, users can quickly forward an article to anyone within the organization using illumio's new email address lookup feature.
- User-Created Feed Bundles on Different Topics
Using its knowledge of user's interests and expertise, illumio 2.1 recommends additional RSS feeds to subscribe to via illumio public groups. illumio public groups are communities that have been created around a similar topic or affinity. By joining public illumio groups, users can quickly subscribe to dozens of feeds on a specific topic and then participate in discussions and Q&A with other group members.
"illumio is a great addition for companies that are deploying web 2.0 technologies like blogs and wikis," stated CEO David Gilmour. "With the new collaboration and RSS feed discovery features in illumio 2.1, it's an easy yet powerful way for organizations to ensure that their employees will get full benefit from their enterprise 2.0 investments without just drowning in even more information."

illumio 2.1 is available immediately and can be downloaded for free (http://www.illumio.com/web/ActionPublic_get_illumio.do) for individual use.
